THIRD YEAR RESIDENTS
Daniel DeBardeleben, MD
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” (Romans 1:16).
Dunamis! It’s where we get the word dynamite. It’s Greek for POWER. The gospel of Christ has real dynamite-like power. In the beginning, Christ our Creator used this power to speak things into existence. And, on the cross, Christ our Redeemer uses the same power to speak rays of light into the darkness of every suffering soul who believes. The same God who breathed life into the nostrils of a lifeless form, is the same One who is able to heal a wounded, mangled heart and repair a broken life of sin. I’ve seen Him do it many times. And, today I feel so privileged to train in a residency program that fosters this kind of experience with God personally and with our patients. I look forward to a training experience in which I will personally grow in character, medical knowledge, and clinical skills; and, an experience that will teach me how to demonstrate and proclaim the overwhelming love of Jesus through the arm of medicine and nutrition.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) For many years, this has been a verse that I have kept close to my heart that I am finding especially relevant in my journey as a physician. God’s providence has brought me here to Valley Baptist so that I can have the opportunity to grow and be molded both professionally and spiritually alongside Christian doctors. This is a program where I am continuously encouraged by faith, challenged to mature in character, and mentored to practice good medicine, all while having fun!
While God is revealing to me my role in medicine, He has blessed my very introverted self with lots of ways to connect with people. I am passionate about music, dance, and eating, cooking, and photographing food. When I travel I’m always on the lookout for the strangest (but delicious) things to eat! I also enjoy a good jam session, shooting hoops, lifting weights, and playing board games. Whether it’s hosting or reaching out to communities, I am excited for the opportunity to train and serve alongside Christian brothers and sisters in the Rio Grande Valley.
Anita Pierre-Antoine, MD
I came here to train in a setting where I could minster to a patient as a whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Since being here, I have been blessed with the opportunity to share the love of Christ with my patients, grow as a physician, and train amongst a like-minded community of faculty, staff, and co-residents.
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;38, therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
– Matthew 9:37-38

I am guided by the maxim of loving God and loving others – helping the people in need and working hard to make the world a better place. I am thankful I have the opportunity to be part of this program, training to use my medical knowledge and skills to help people around me heal both physically and spiritually.
“God raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”
Ken Liu, MD
By the grace of God, I am a part of VBFPRP not only to practice medicine but more so to learn and grow as a whole physician. I am excited to serve Him through medicine together with brothers and sisters in Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
